Traffic control EUX
On Tuesday afternoon, 22 July, a traffic control was conducted on Van Tonningenweg on Sint Eustatius. During the control, several drivers were checked, resulting in one fine being issued for driving without valid insurance. Several drivers received a warning for not wearing a seat belt.
The KPCN will continue to carry out checks at various locations on the island and warns all road users to have the necessary documents in order. The police will continue to conduct these types of checks to ensure the safety of all road users. It is very important to comply with traffic regulations and thereby contribute to safe traffic on the island.
In the evening hours of the same day, a patrol spotted a car without brake lights on Mansionweg. The vehicle then sped off at high speed. As a result, the patrol pursued the car in order to carry out a check. The vehicle was found at the side of the road on Charles A. Woodley Road.
The officers approached the driver, as he had driven off at high speed. While talking to the driver, the officers detected a strong odour, presumably of suspected narcotics, coming from the vehicle. They therefore decided to carry out a check based on the BES Opium Act.
The driver did not agree to this, got into his vehicle and drove off. The vehicle was blocked on Vincent A. Lopes Road. During the check, the driver again refused to cooperate. A quantity of suspected narcotics and a kitchen knife were seized from the vehicle. The driver was fined for violating the BES Opium Act.
